The 10 most important questions to ask before buying a house

Category Home Buying/Selling Tips

We've decided to make your life easy and compile the 10 most important questions you should ask the agent before you buy a house:

1. How long has the house been on the market?

2. What is the reason for sale?

3. What schools and shopping centres are in the area?

4. Can you tell me about the last few sales in the area?

5. Which security company can tell me about crime in the area?

6. Have the owners been here a long time?

7. Is the seller negotiable?

8. What is the Town Planning Policy for the area?

9. How long will it take me to get to work in the morning?

10. Who are the neighbours?

Entering into any transaction (especially the one that is likely to be your single biggest investment and for many years) should be done with thorough research. Asking these questions will give you an initial idea of the property, the agent and the current owner but if at all in doubt or uncomfortable then dig deeper and knock on doors or phone the right people to get independent answer. Rather make sure that by the time you make an offer you have all the answers you need.
