Detoxing: all health or all hype?

Category News

Now that the time of holiday treats and feasts has come and gone, many of us may be looking at hopping on the detox train. Before you start drinking juices and teas, do a little research and talk to a nutritionist to get the best advice for your body.

Detoxing has swept the world quickly, promising a quick and simple way to flush our bodies of toxins and even help to slim down a little. It is very important to cleanse the body of the everyday toxins we consume, especially over the holiday season when we tent to overindulge.  Our bodies are incredible with many of our organs naturally filtering out these “toxins”. So finding a balance between detoxing with juices and eating a healthy diet will help you now to get back on track.

Here are a few points to consider when using juicing as a form of detox:

  1. Consider how much sugar is in the juice you are making. Some fruits contain a high dose of sugar so choose substitutes like celery and cucumber to make sure you keep your sugar levels consistent.
  2. You lose the fibre content of the vegetables when juicing, keep a balance between what you eat and what you juice.
  3. Chose the time of the day that you juice carefully and try keep your vegetables and fruits organic.
  4. The juicer may be expensive and there are different types, do your research.

Detoxing helps to promote healthier eating habits and allow us to feel better about ourselves. If your New Year’s resolution was to start a detox, diet, or healthy eating plan, make sure you don't rush in and buy the juicer without proper research.

Talk to a nutritionist and try a more balanced diet and lifestyle! Heres to a happy healthy life in 2018.
