Why you shouldn’t set New Year’s Resolutions this year
How many times do we promise ourselves to lose weight, save money, or quit smoking only to give up those New Year’s resolutions within the first week? A fresh start sounds amazing, and every year we try our best, but the disappointment of a failed resolution lingers until the next New Year’s comes along. So here are three reasons why you shouldn’t set any resolutions for 2018.
Too big too fast
Our New Year’s resolutions are usually something big that will change our lives forever; however, we’ll usually only give ourselves a year to make the change. This means that after the hype and bubbly have worn off, we realise that we can’t make the changes we promised ourselves and give up, going back to where we started.
No real motivation
While we may have considered what we want to change about ourselves for a couple weeks before the final count down, we are usually to set in our ways to make the change. We want to kick this habit or pick up a healthy one, but the motivation to carry on with our resolutions isn’t as strong as we think.
Poor self-control
The fire for New Year’s resolutions usually starts fizzling out when we don’t see the results we want as soon as we expected. Our ego takes a hit, we lose the motivation we started with and we give up instead of persevering through the tough beginning.
So what should you do instead? We want to make the changes and lead better lifestyles; the best way to do this is set smaller goals which are more achievable at the right time. Take the time to prepare yourself and plan your goals properly.
