Whats not to love About Autumn?

Category Gardening

When planning for all the public holidays and school holidays over the next few weeks add some gardening. What better way to spend time with the family when you are at home than in the garden planting up for the winter harvest. Getting the hands in the soil reconnects us all and helps children learn about the environment and finding a balance in the electronic world we live in today.

What's not to love About Autumn?

The autumn planting selection is almost more exciting than spring. Seeds, bulbs and bedding plants promise colour through the drab winter and the change of season in the food garden brings a whole new harvest to the table. Let's face it we all love spring but with the exciting plant selection for autumn… What's not to love about it? Autumn is one of the natures best planting times especially for trees and shrubs as roots tend to settle well before the winter months arrive. Young roots grow in winter even if it looks like they are standing still; autumn planted plants outperform spring planted ones within a summer season. Ever heard someone say "once you start on the computer or tablet the time just flies"? Try putting your hands in the soil… it does the same thing!

Awesome autumn!
The season has changed and with that so too has your garden. Although we will still have hot days and hopefully rainy days over the next few weeks it’s the cooler and longer nights that get the garden ready for its new look.

Early autumn is a great time to garden and for entertaining friends outside so let’s get into the awesome autumn spirit and sort out the garden for the Easter holidays.

Plant some Petunias! The secret to growing the best petunias is to plant them in the hottest spot possible, perfect for dressing up the entertainment patio. Petunias are water wise and only need water once a week to every ten days. Keep dead heading the spent flowers to keep them looking good.

In the coldest months Petunias will stop flowering but keep growing and then in August as the temperatures warm up they come back into flower and give the best show ever.

Good Luck!
